It is over a year since Pope Francis convened a meeting of Church leaders in
Rome to discuss the abuse of children and vulnerable adults in the Church.
What has happened in Ireland in the intervening period?
The Motu Proprio “Vos estis lux mundi” was received in June 2019 and there
followed a series of meetings convened by the four Archbishops to consider
what further steps the Irish Church needs to take to ensure compliance with
the expectations set out in “Vos estis lux mundi”.
Welcome to our Christmas edition of our Newsletter. On behalf of the National Board, the National Office staff and the National Case Management Committee (NCMC) can I take this opportunity to thank you all for your work on ensuring the safety of children in Catholic Church ministry. Christmas
provides an opportunity and time for reflection and for thanksgiving. The National Board acknowledges the significant efforts made by all in the Church, Church leaders, safeguarding personnel, volunteers and the lay faithful to prioritise the well-being of children and to promote best practice.
During summer 2019 the National Board said a fond “Slán agus beannacht” to Ann Doyle. Ann has worked in the National Office for 11 years and graced us all with her calm, gentle manner through good times and challenging times. While Ann is missed by us all, we are delighted that she is taking time
with her family and grandchildren during this next phase of her life.
As we enter the summer period it is helpful to look back over the work undertaken during the last few months and set out our training and other plans for the next quarter. We are also just about to produce the National Board’s annual report which charts our work over the past twelve months.Read More
Pope Francis called together Presidents of Bishops’ Conferences for a Meeting on Child Safeguarding. The three day meeting took place in Rome on 21-24th February 2019. The long term outcomes will undoubtedly impact on our practice here in Ireland, and we in the National Board will work closely with Church authorities and Church personnel to ensure we offer support in developing and maintaining best practice standards on all aspects of child safeguarding in the Catholic Church in Ireland.Read More
